Wine Tasting Adventures Await
Barnard Griffin Winery
We started our wine journey at Barnard Griffin. Tucked away in the Woodinville Schoolhouse District, this winery boasts a cozy tasting room adorned with charming interiors, crafted by Deborah Barnard herself. Here, you can savor limited-production reserve wines, available exclusively through their wine clubs and tasting rooms. Choose from a curated selection of four distinct wines and indulge in a personalized tasting experience that might inspire you to take a bottle home. The legacy of high-quality Washington wines is clear in every sip! They focus on Bordeaux and Rhône-style wines and change their tasting menu every 7 days. Needless to say, we have a few new favorites and left with a bottle of Côtes Du Rôb Blanc. We’ve already planned to return here with our friends when they visit for their elevated wine experience and because of their connection to WSU— (Go Cougs!)
Novelty Hill – Januik
Just a short ride away is Novelty Hill – Januik in the West Valley District, a stunning destination that seamlessly blends modern elegance with vibrant outdoor spaces. With an industrial-chic interior and a spacious patio perfect for soaking up the Pacific Northwest sun, this winery is ideal for relaxing after an exhilarating day of sports. Or sit inside and enjoy a view of their production facility, which is on full display through a large, beautiful window. This offers a unique experience where you can see the wine being created as you enjoy it.
By this time, we were ready to eat, so we paired our wine with the highly recommended Fried Chicken Sandwich and shared a delicious pizza, but you can’t go wrong since their entire menu is designed to complement the wines and features seasonal flavors. Don’t miss their innovative food and wine pairings throughout the year; the Potato Chip pairing alongside a reserve tasting is a scrumptious match that showcases the winery’s culinary creativity. In summer, catch events featuring live music, small bites, and wine specials on their patio each week, proof that good energy and relaxed vibes work together in this enchanting venue.
Prohibition Cellars
For a taste of something truly unique, explore the Warehouse District and visit Prohibition Cellars. This hidden gem offers a captivating experience filled with adventure and nostalgia. Created by Sandor from Hungary, this winery embraces simplicity and tradition, emphasizing natural flavors from the land. Inside the mobster-themed tasting room complete with secret entrances and hidden spaces, you’ll feel transported to a different era while sipping on complex wines crafted with Sandor’s passion. The lively atmosphere is especially vibrant on Friday nights when local bands fill the air with live music. We will definitely keep an eye on their upcoming events and always find an excuse to enjoy a glass of the Hatchet when it’s available.

Embrace the Outdoors
Woodinville is not just about wine; it embraces the beauty of the Pacific Northwest through its parks and trails.
Sammamish River Trail
Start your outdoor adventure on the Sammamish River Trail, a picturesque pathway that runs parallel to the river, showcasing the area’s lush greenery. Rent one of the complimentary bikes from Willow’s Lodge and take a leisurely two-mile ride to Wilmot Gateway Park. This charming park is a hub of activity, with expansive lawns where you can stretch out on a picnic blanket, go for a quick jog, or simply watch the world go by. If you have kids in tow, the sprawling playground at the park will surely keep them entertained, allowing parents a moment to relax and take in the views. We loved the easy access to nature from the hotel; having the opportunity to go for a walk or bike ride gave us much-needed calm.
Woodinville Sports Fields
Just across the street, we headed over to the Woodinville Sports Fields, a lively community hub where locals gather to kick the ball around on the expansive grassy pitch. During the summer months, the area comes alive with outdoor concerts, offering visitors a chance to enjoy music under the warm sun. Afterward, you can explore the charming shops in the Schoolhouse District, known for its boutique stores and local flavor. If visiting between May and September, don’t miss the vibrant Woodinville Farmers Market held nearby, featuring fresh produce, artisanal goods, and local artisans, making it a perfect spot to experience the community’s lively spirit.
JB Family Growers
Right across from Willows Lodge is JB Family Growers Farm, home of the Lavender Farm, Flower Market, Pumpkin Farm, and Puzzle Patch. This stunning field has miles of trails to explore. We visited during their pumpkin patch and had so much fun wandering the fields looking for the perfect gourd to bring home. There were also games for the kids to enjoy and a corn maze with three different trails. It’s beautifully designed, and don’t be fooled — it’s very easy to get lost and spend a while trying to find your way out, based on our experience. During the summer, though, this farm transforms into a serene Lavender farm that attracts locals and visitors alike. You can spend the day playing in the fields with your family, soaking up the relaxing aroma, and picnicking on the grass. You can also clip your own bouquet to bring back to enjoy in your room.
Wood Trails
After a busy day, fuel up with a comforting latte and adventure into the tranquil Wood Trails. Just a stone’s throw from the bustling city life, these trails offer a serene escape into nature’s embrace. Access the trails conveniently from 144th Ave NE, where multiple trailheads welcome you into a world of winding paths framed by towering trees and vibrant foliage. Whether you’re hiking, jogging, or simply strolling, each step along the trail is accompanied by new sights and sounds, making it the perfect way to recharge before heading back to the thrilling soccer matches.

Culinary Delights
Breakfast at Tarte by Heritage
Kick-start your day with a delightful breakfast at Tarte by Heritage, a charming bake shop just a leisurely 10-minute stroll from Willows Lodge. This gem prides itself on from-scratch baking, offering an array of freshly made breads, pastries, and heartwarming sandwiches. When I visited, I couldn’t resist the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese on a buttery croissant. I also got a rich latte, this breakfast was exactly the comforting meal I needed to jump start my day. And for those on the go, Tarte has an enticing selection of grab-and-go items, or you can browse their retail section for unique local souvenirs.
Lunch at the Pizza Coop & Ale House
As midday approaches, treat yourself to a delicious lunch at the family-owned Pizza Coop & Ale House, just a quick 9-minute drive from Willows Lodge and on the way to Prohibition Cellars. Known for its mouthwatering Detroit-style pizza, this spot caters to all dietary needs, offering vegan and gluten-free options. The atmosphere is lively, filled with fans cheering for their favorite teams on large screens throughout the venue. We enjoyed the Margherita Pizza, a fresh Caesar Salad, and tasty Pizza Rolls that made us wish we had room for more. It’s the perfect place to gather with friends and fuel up for the day’s activities! And if you’re bringing along little ones, they’ll love the arcade area where they can burn off some energy while you indulge.
Happy Hour at Fireside Lounge at Willows Lodge
Before dinner, unwind at the Fireside Lounge at Willows Lodge, where a cozy ambiance awaits. With live music performing on weekends, this lounge is the perfect spot to sip on a Fireside Espresso Martini in front of a crackling fire. The warmth of the surroundings, combined with picturesque views of the property, creates an atmosphere of relaxation, without even leaving the hotel. Though we didn’t dine this time, the tempting Charcuterie platter caught our eye, and we heard whispers of the off-menu Grand Marnier prawns that are simply not to be missed.
Dinner at The Restaurant at DeLille
No trip to Woodinville would be complete without dining at The Restaurant at DeLille Cellars, a culinary treasure nestled in the scenic Hollywood District. This breathtaking venue, once home to Redhook Brewery, boasts a stunning 3-story tasting room with a sophisticated yet inviting atmosphere. With a menu crafted from the finest seasonal ingredients, you’ll find must-try items like roasted mushroom toast and savory steak frites that beautifully pair with their exceptional wines. On the recommendation of our attentive server, we selected a bottle of their renowned D2 wine, adding the perfect touch to our memorable meal. With service that truly cares and a menu that celebrates local flavors, this restaurant is a must-visit for foodies and wine enthusiasts alike.
Rooftop Drinks at The Shed at The SOMM Hotel
As the sun sets, enhance your experience at The Shed, the rooftop bar at the newly opened SOMM hotel. This spacious area is filled with natural light and features outdoor lounges with fire pits and a stylish indoor bar. Here, the focus is on local Washington wines, showcasing the best from the region. The cocktail menu is carefully curated, and the decor is a visual delight; from wine barrels to whimsical mushroom sculptures, every detail highlights the creativity of this unique venue.
We had just finished a large meal, so we didn’t have an entrée, but I will return to try their Winter Black Truffle Chicken Pot Pie. We did sample the Peach Basil Smash, and my husband ordered a glass of the Two Vinterners Cabernet Sauvignon. Although we were full, we couldn’t leave without trying the s’mores tart, which was the perfect ending to our trip and a great way to close this cozy weekend getaway. Whether you’re sharing laughs with friends or relaxing after a day of soccer excitement, The Shed is the ideal spot to toast to unforgettable memories.
