The Republican Party’s win after the 2024 presidential election left numerous celebrities packing their bags. Donald Trump and J.D. Vance accepted their victory in the early hours of November 6, 2024, giving a speech in Florida to address the nation. Since quite a few A-listers were unhappy with the result, some vowed to move to other countries.

Here’s which Hollywood stars considered leaving the country, and which ones actually did.

Eva Longoria

Out of all the celebrities who said they’d do it, Eva Longoria actually left the U.S., dividing her time between Spain and Mexico. She lives in the U.S. part-time. During an interview published on November 13, 2024 with Marie Claire, Eva noted that she made the decision before the 2024 election. However, the results solidified her choice, and she described America as a “dystopian country.”

“I had my whole adult life here. But even before [the pandemic], it was changing,” she told the outlet, adding, “The vibe was different. And then Covid happened, and it pushed it over the edge.”

Eva pointed out that she didn’t want to criticize California, but cited homelessness and high taxes, adding that the real reason she left was because “this chapter in [her] life is done now.”

“I’m privileged,” Eva acknowledged. “I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”

Jimmy Kimmel

Jimmy Kimmel tears up while talking about Donald Trump’s victory:

“It was a terrible night for women, for children, for the hundreds of thousands of hard working immigrants who make this country great, for health care, for our climate, for science, for journalism, for justice,… pic.twitter.com/p3fCZ4DESu

During an opening skit of his late-night show, Jimmy Kimmel joked that he was “leaving the country” because he “can’t stay for another four years of this” after the 2024 election results came in.

“Who knows what he’s gonna do?” Jimmy asked while pointing out Trump’s “list of enemies.”

Jimmy hasn’t moved abroad, but he revealed on The Sarah Silverman Podcast in August 2025 that he obtained Italian citizenship through his grandmother’s family. He explained that the decision was partly driven by concerns over the political climate following Trump’s re-election.

“What’s going on [with Trump] is as bad as you thought it was gonna be,” Jimmy told Sarah Silverman.

“I feel like it’s probably even worse than [Trump] would like it to be,” he added.

Guillermo Rodriguez

During Jimmy’s late-night skit, Guillermo Rodriguez joked that he was “going back to Mexico.”

Miley Cyrus

In 2016, according to The Hill, Miley Cyrus stated on her Instagram, “I am moving if this is my president! I don’t say things I don’t mean!”

According to CBS, Raven-Symoné expressed on The View that she would leave the country if a Republican won the election.

Billie Joe Armstrong

Per Newsweek, Billie Joe Armstrong previously announced he was “renouncing” his citizenship, stating, “There’s too much f**king stupid in the world to go back to that miserable f**king excuse for a country.”

Cher

The iconic singer disclosed during Trump’s first presidential run that she would “leave the planet” if he won, according to Page Six. Cher also added, “Young people with fresh ideas and … energy is what we need.”

Barbra Streisand

Barbra Streisand was vocal in her opposition to Trump, sharing in a 2016 interview on 60 Minutes, “He has no facts. I don’t know, I can’t believe it. I’m either coming to your country, if you’ll let me in, or Canada.”

Lena Dunham

PerE! News, Lena Dunham said in a 2016 interview with Fox & Friends, “I know a lot of people have been threatening to do this, but I really will. I know a lovely place in Vancouver and I can get my work done from there.”

Neve Campbell

Neve Campbell shared in 2016 that she would “move back to Canada” if the Republican candidate won the presidency.

Ellen DeGeneres & Portia de Rossi

Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, actually moved out of the U.S. The couple relocated to the United Kingdom, settling about two hours from London in South West England. TMZ reported that Ellen and Portia purchased their home abroad ahead of the 2024 presidential election, with a source claiming they immediately wanted “to get the hell out” once the results were confirmed.

Their West Hollywood, California home was recently listed for sale and went into escrow on March 20, 2025. Priced at $4,995,000, the charming two-bedroom, two-bathroom Spanish bungalow covers 1,691 square feet and is located close to the popular Butterfly Beach.

Rosie O’Donnell confirmed on March 11, 2025 that she moved to Ireland at the start of 2025.

In a TikTok video, she revealed that she relocated with her child, Clay, on January 15 and explained, “When it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that’s when we will consider coming back.” She added, “It’s been heartbreaking to see what’s happening politically and hard for me personally as well. The personal is political, as we all know.”

America Ferrera

America Ferrera, best known for Ugly Betty and Barbie, reportedly moved to the U.K. with her husband Ryan Piers Williams and their two children after Trump’s 2024 election victory.

Though her U.K. move is primarily for family and educational opportunities, she’s also continued her advocacy work, saying she plans to maintain a U.S. presence for her work and her activism, particularly on Latina issues.

Courtney Love

In early 2025, Courtney Love officially settled in the U.K., seeking British citizenship. She described Trump’s presidency as “frightening” and likened his administration’s tone to “emperor‑core.

“I’m really glad I’m here,” she said on March 4 at an event at the Royal Geographical Society in London. “It’s so great to live here. I’m finally getting my British citizenship in six months. I get to be a citizen. I’m applying, man! Can’t get rid of me!”

Sophie Turner

Though originally from England, Sophie Turner returned to Europe in 2024, with relocation plans accelerated by political instability after Trump’s win.

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie is reportedly planning to leave Los Angeles. In late 2025, she avoided discussing politics in particular. Still, she admitted during a panel at the San Sebastián Film Festival, “I love my country, but at this time, I don’t recognize my country. I’ve always lived internationally, my family is international, my friends, my life… My worldview is equal, united, and international. Anything anywhere that divides or limits personal expressions and freedoms from anyone, I think, is very dangerous.”
